The Manifest-O!

The Manifest is a web-based publication dedicated to bringing both a deeper perspective to the shallow waters of contemporary culture and a humorous, pop-savvy point of view to the headiest discussions of philosophy and spirituality. Because, when you get right down to it, both low and high, dumb and Divine are the same exact thing. Or as the Buddhists say in the Heart Sutra, “Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Form is none other than emptiness, emptiness is none other than form.”

Yes, this is a spiritual magazine, but not in the usual sense. We are not going to tell you who or what to believe because, quite frankly, religion scares us and dogma is super lame. And you won’t find any dolphins, angels, or “new paradigms” here either (unless they are really, really funny). Our attitude towards spirituality can pretty much be summed up by John Scotus Erigena’s statement to Frankish king Charles the Bald in the year 840 A.D.: “We do not know what God is. God himself doesn’t know what He is because He is not anything. Literally God is not, because He transcends being.”

And yes, we are also fiends for pop culture, yet without the sense of pointlessness that often signifies. The world is a wacky, ridiculous place, but we have a pretty firm belief that we were put here for something a bit more important than keeping our iPods organized or tracking down Paris Hilton videos.

And so The Manifest (a reference to the old mystical definition for the world of form, illusion, sin, separation, and suffering) will ride the delicate edge between form and emptiness, garbage and God, sarcasm and The Sacred…and try to keep you posted along the way.

We dare you to join us.
