SUNNY TIMES [Chris]
Some things just blow my mind when I try to fit them in it...

"In a 20-day period from October to November 2003, more than a dozen storms, including the most powerful ever measured, erupted from the face of the Sun, sending blast waves in every direction. The solar eruptions were so powerful that billions of tons of electrified gas shot into space at speeds of up to five million miles per hour, the fastest ever measured from the Sun, scientists said. The blast waves from the series of explosions merged as they moved out, creating a front that is now moving toward the edge of the solar system at about 1.5 million miles per hour, they said."

Read more about where the shock wave ends, how it has ripped part of Mars' thin atmosphere apart and heaps of other cool gallatic stuff;)

MARY JANE WATSON DITCHES BUSH [coolmel]

"George Bush is a moron, so I definitely don't want him in office. I'll vote for John Kerry but he's not really standing up for anything either, so I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make."

IRON MINDS [Chris]
"An iron curtain is descending between the West and the Muslim world, Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has warned."

The best metaphor I've heard for a while about our current geo-political pot boiling... and the sanest advice about solutions, while old, debated and mostly ignored -- its still heartening to me to hear these words...

"If we are just killing terrorists, we are not achieving anything ... I call them the leaves of a tree. As long as the tree is there, the leaves will keep growing."

"If you manage to finish off one organisation like Al Qaeda ... you've chopped off a branch of that tree, but the tree will still grow. You must identify the root, and the root happens to be political disputes ... the root happens also to be illiteracy and poverty."

LAND OF THE FREE? [Chris]
"Two months ago, I traveled from London to Los Angeles on assignment for a British paper, The Guardian, believing that as a British citizen I did not require a visa. I was wrong: as a journalist, even from a country that has a visa waiver agreement with the United States, I should have applied for a so-called I (for information) visa. Because I had not, I was interrogated for four hours, body searched, fingerprinted, photographed, handcuffed and forced to spend the night in a cell in a detention facility in central Los Angeles, and another day as a detainee at the airport before flying back to London." [Read the rest, it gets really interesting;)]

MOORE TERRORISM [Chris]
Um, excuse me, yet again, but does anyone live near Kansas, where creationism reigns supreme, and ahhh, Moore's film is banned from screening because it incites terrorism? I may be able to poke holes in the way he makes his point in a critical discourse sense... but, next to the neo-cons, What the? If you live down that way, feel free to get revolutionary on their ass and bring 'em past the dark ages will ya?

Oh, and Moore's re-done his site and plans on blogging too -- so there you go coomel, some people appreciate that blogs=life (of some kind anyway;)
